The Historic Center is the oldest part of the city, where the third capital of Guatemala was founded on January 2, 1776, in the Valle de la Ermita or de la Virgen.

Of architecture dominated by the neoclassical style, the eclectic model can be seen through the Renaissance order, and, to a lesser extent, also the Gothic, Baroque, Ultra-Baroque, Mudejar, Art Nouveau and Art Deco influences, among others.

This is the heart of the city where the country's political activity takes place, and a good part of its economic, social and cultural activity.
